Tip: Creating a "Due Today" Action View 3

Posted by Ryan Mon, 31 Jul 2006 18:57:00 GMT

It is quite useful to have a “Due Today” view of your actions, regardless of context or project. While Tracks does not yet support such a condensed view (the default home page does list your actions sorted by due date – but that leaves a lot of extra noise in actions that are due tomorrow, next year etc…), you can get a nice “Due Today” view by doing the following:

  1. Go the the feeds page of your GTDTracks
  2. Click on the TXT icon next to “Actions due today or earlier”
And voi-la – you have a basic but very functional view of everything due today. I use this almost exclusively to quickly see what needs to be addressed today.
AT PHONE:
    [Due: Jul-31-06] Phone home (Personal)

AT COMPUTER:
[Due: Jul-31-06] Merge latest Tracks (GTDTracks)

AT HOME:
[Due: Jul-31-06] Mow lawn (Lawn & Garden)

...

You can also make your view look one, two, three… days out by adjusting the http://gtdtracks.com/feed/text/...?due=0 parameter to be due=1 for today and tomorrow’s actions, or due=2 for the next 2 days etc…

Keep in mind that everytime you change any of your preferences the URL to your feeds will change.

Server Bounce Tonight 4

I’ll be bouncing the app tonight at around 11pm EST to remedy this issue

Sorry for the inconvenience – though you shouldn’t notice any effects.

Upgrade Issues 5

Posted by Ryan Fri, 28 Jul 2006 20:08:00 GMT

If you’re seeing wierd XML files coming at you after this latest upgrade, you’re going to need to logout and log back in as some URLs have changed underneath you.

This issue has made me realize that I need to be stricter in when I roll out new features. The Tracks codebase just moves so quickly I get a little too excited.

I think I’m going to start limiting myself to one upgrade per week – maybe on Sunday nights so unexpected things like this don’t happen and tarnish the user experience. I’ll also publish a post here letting you know what’s coming down the pipe.

My apologies!

Upgrade to Fix Tickler Creation 10

Posted by Ryan Fri, 28 Jul 2006 17:46:00 GMT

The current version of Tracks has a bug where you’re not able to create a new tickler item due to improper handling of the “show from” field.

Fear not GTDTracks patrons!

This has been fixed on GTDTracks and we’ve submitted a patch back to the Tracks source remedying the issue. One example of how subscribing to GTDTracks supports the Tracks community as a whole. Keep the issues coming!

Wow, the fix has been accepted already – can’t beat that turn around time!

Mobile Tracks Access w/ GTDTracks 7

Posted by Ryan Fri, 28 Jul 2006 02:10:00 GMT

Since you get the benefit of having the latest Tracks codebase when you use GTDTracks, we can offer you beta-access to the mobile version of Tracks. To view your Tracks info on the go, use this mobile URL:

http://gtdtracks.com/mobile

This is very beta, though, and I have not had luck updating my tasks from the mobile page. At this point think of it more as a read-only view of your tasks. Still.. a nice feature to have.

GTD Tracks blog is live 3

Posted by Ryan Fri, 28 Jul 2006 02:06:16 GMT

The GTDTracks.com blog is now live and will be your source for site updates and general Tracks usage tips.

To start things off, I just updated to the latest Tracks codebase which gives you the ability to set your page refresh rate in your user preferences page. This will make your GTDTracks page refresh at a certain interval (in minutes). Keep in mind that everytime you update your preferences, though, your feed urls change (as a new url key is generated for you).
